Lactic acid bacteria may have a beneficial effect on atopic dermatitis, reducing the severity of skin lesions. Strains included in the Latopic show: resistance to low stomach pH and bile salts, adherence to intestinal epithelial cells, production of substances with activity against: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella Enteritidis, Salmonella Typhimurium, Listeria innocua, Listeria monocytogenes and Enterococcus faecalis, resistance to antibiotics is characteristic of bacteria from the Lactobacillus casei/rhamnosus group. Uses/Indications Latopic, a probiotic, is used for the dietary treatment of food allergies and atopic dermatitis.
