“Egianti is an emergency contraceptive that can be used for 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or if your regular method of contraception fails.
Egianti contains a synthetic hormone-like medicine called levonorgestrel.
Prevents 84% of expected pregnancies when used within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It does not prevent pregnancy in all cases and is more effective if used as soon as possible after unprotected sex. It is better to take it within 12 hours than to wait until the third day.
Egianti probably works like this:
prevents the release of an egg from the ovary;
prevents sperm from fertilizing an egg that may have already been released.
When should you use emergency contraception?
Egianti can only prevent pregnancy if you take it within 72 hours of unprotected sex. This will not work if you are already pregnant. If you have unprotected sex in the future after taking Egianti (even during the same menstrual cycle), the drug will not prevent pregnancy.
Egianti is not intended for use before the first menstrual period (first menstrual period).
A previous ectopic pregnancy or previous inflammation of the fallopian tubes increases the risk of another ectopic pregnancy.
All women should use emergency contraception as soon as possible after unprotected sex.
There is evidence that Egianti may be less effective if you are overweight or have a higher body mass index (BMI), but the evidence is limited and inconclusive. Therefore, Egianti remains suitable for all women, regardless of their body weight or BMI.
We encourage you to discuss concerns about using emergency contraception with your doctor.
Children and teenagers
Egianti is not intended for use before the first menstrual period (first menstrual period).
If you are concerned about sexually transmitted diseases.
If you don’t use a condom during sex (or if it breaks or slips off), you can become infected with a sexually transmitted disease or HIV.
This drug does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases; only a condom can do that.
If you are concerned, talk to your doctor, nurse, or planning clinic staff. or contact your pharmacist for advice.
How often can I take Eggianti?
Take Egianti only in an emergency and not as a regular method of contraception. If you use Egianti more than once during your menstrual cycle, it will be less reliable and may disrupt your menstrual cycle (menstruation).
Egianti does not work as a regular method of contraception.
Your doctor, nurse, or Planned Parenthood staff can give you information about long-term contraceptive methods that are much more effective at preventing pregnancy.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
pregnancy
Do not take this medicine if you are already pregnant.
Mode of application:
Take both tablets at the same time as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours but no later than 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex. Don’t delay taking your pills. The sooner you take the pill after unprotected sex, the more effective it will be. It can only protect you from pregnancy if you take it within 72 hours of unprotected sex.
You can take Egianti at any time during your menstrual cycle as long as you are not pregnant or think you are not pregnant.
Do not chew the tablets, but swallow them whole with water.
If you are already taking a regular method of contraception, such as birth control pills, you can continue to take them at your usual times.
If you have unprotected sex again after taking Egianti (even if it happens during the same menstrual cycle), the pills will no longer have a contraceptive effect and you may be at risk of getting pregnant again.
