Gastrolit – indications
Once dissolved, gastrolite is used to prevent and treat mild dehydration and diarrhea in infants, children and adults.
Active ingredient: chamomile extract, glucose, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium hydrogen carbonate.
Composition of Gastrolit sachets
Gastrolit is a combination drug, active ingredients:
sodium chloride 0.35 g
potassium chloride 0.30 g
sodium bicarbonate 0.50 g
chamomile tincture 0.02 g
glucose 2.98 g
After dissolution, the solution contains: 60 mmol/l Na+, 20 mmol/l K+, 30 mmol/l HCO3-, 80 mmol/l glucose.
The osmolarity of the solution formed after dissolving the contents of the sachet in 200 ml of water is 240 mOsm/kg.
How to dose and use Gastrolit?
Dosage for dehydration:
Infants: Depending on the degree of dehydration, usually 50 to 100 ml/kg of the child’s body weight in the first 4 to 6 hours, then about 10 ml/kg of the child’s body weight after each loose stool.
Children from 1 to 3 years – depending on the degree of dehydration, usually 50 ml/kg body weight in the first 4 hours, then approximately 10 ml/kg body weight after each loose stool.
For older children, over 3 years old – 500 ml during the first 4 hours (to quench thirst), then 100-200 ml after each loose stool.
Adults – during the first 4 hours, 500–1000 ml (to quench thirst), then approximately 200 ml after each loose stool.
Preventing dehydration:
If diarrhea appears before the onset of dehydration, preventive doses are used: 10 ml/kg body weight after each stool in infants and young children, 200 ml after loose stool in older children and adults.
In case of vomiting, lack of urination during the first 6 hours of treatment, or other alarming symptoms, a medical examination is required. Breastfed or bottle-fed babies should continue to eat the same food unless their doctor tells them otherwise. Children over 1 year of age should continue to eat an age-appropriate diet unless otherwise directed by their doctor.
A precipitate may form from the solution, which does not affect the medicinal value of the drug.
The medicine is given to the patient to drink by dissolving it in hot boiled water (contains 1 sachet per 200 ml of water) and after cooling. The solution should not be sweetened.

When should you not take Gastrolit?
if you are allergic to the active substances or any other ingredients of the drug;
if you have high potassium levels in your blood;
if you suffer from acute and chronic renal failure with electrolyte disturbances;
